Read MoreAs self-proclaimed foodies ourselves (in short, we eat out far too much), we went on a journey to discover the best cheap eats in Norwich. There is something very satisfying about discovering a good place to eat that doesn’t blow the budget and on many occasions, they also come hand in hand with the casual laidback dining experience that we all know and love. So here it is, our list of the best cheap eats in Norwich, tried and tested by Emu Properties.
The obvious choice to kick things off has to be Yard in Norwich city centre (and a new location has now opened at the Stanely NR3). It is safe to say that we have definitely tried and tested this casual pasta spot – most of the menu in fact. The fresh pasta is mouth-wateringly good and the atmosphere and vibe is bustling and trendy. Once you’ve devoured a delicious plate of pasta, you can not leave without trying their huge Tiramasu – enough for two or just yourself if you’re feeling extra hungry (we don’t blame you).
Nibbles and sides from: £3.50 – £8.50
Pasta mains from: £7 – £12
Desserts from: £7 – £8
Stuck on lunch choices? You have to try out Moorish Falafel Bar at one of their two locations (Lower Goat Lane and Park Lane). You’d be mistaken for thinking that falafels can be dry – definitely not here. They are packed full of flavour and have all of the sauces, sides and toppings to pack a punch. The menu is vast too and you can opt for the dishes in a bowl, wrap or burger. Our top choices are the Mock Chicken Burger (£6.50) and The Mexican Falafel Classic (£6.50). Falafels never tasted so good!
Nibbles and sides from: £1.30 – £2.50
Dishes from: £5.20 – £9
Sweet treats from: £2.50 – £3.20
Ice cream from: £3.95 – £6.50
Let’s be honest, most of us can only go a few months before the classic fish & chips craving starts to creep in. We are in the UK after all! When we are craving a healthy serving (portion size not actually healthy) of fish and chips, we head straight to the Grosvenor Fish Bar on Lower Goat Lane. It held one of the top spots on TripAdvisor for many years and it’s not hard to see why. It provides all of your classic options that the UK know and loves but also some left-field alternatives if you are feeling adventurous (Tuna steaks and mojo chips – yes please!).
Fish options from: £1.50 – £9
Chip options from: £2.50 – £4
Sausages from: £1.50 – £3.50
Sides from: £1.40 – £3.80
When each person in your group is craving a different cuisine, Yalm food hall is sure to deliver. Recently opened at the end of 2022, it brings a fresh breath of air to the Norwich foodie scene. Let us get it straight, it is not your standard food hall and there is definitely no Burget King in sight. It offers six independent kitchens and three bars all held in a unique and interior-designed space. It is the perfect spot to meet with friends and family – plus your four-legged friends can join too! You can visit at any time of day as the vendors range from a breakfast spot, pizza, tacos, ice cream, ramen and more!
If you are looking for something a little different, head out of the city to this favourite spot in the trendy neighbourhood of NR2. They are a modern and casual cafe with a twist and are putting Supper Clubs back on the map for Norwich. Think runny eggs, creamy coffee, drizzled honey and sugar-filled french toast – have we sold you yet? When they are not satisfying your breakfast cravings, you can pop along to one of the many supper clubs and pop-up events that showcase up-and-coming eateries and chefs in Norwich.
Breakfast from: £4.50 – £12.95
Lunch from: £6.50 – £10.50

We couldn’t write a blog about cheap eats and not include a stall from Norwich Market. There are many cheap eats to pick from at the markets but one of our favourites and go-to vendors is Fresh. As per the name, they offer fresh fusion noodle soups packed with meat, vegetables and flavour. This stall is a great place to stop at on a cold day to pick up a hot tasty bowl that will heat up your soul. For the hotter and sunnier weather, try out their fresh pressed juices!
Noodles from: £6 – £9
Juices from: £2.50+
This venue may not be the cheapest of the options that we have listed, however, if you have a special occasion (or just a Friday night) and are looking for something unique, XO Kitchen should be at the top of your list. For a weekend meal out, XO Kitchen does offer great value for money and you are sure to leave with full bellies and a smile on your face. Every mouthful will be packed with flavour and probably combinations that you haven’t tried before – but so tasty! They offer lunch and dinner dining but be sure to book in advance as it is a popular choice.
Dishes from: £8 – 18
Desserts from: £8.50 – 9
Do you have a sweet tooth craving? Christopher’s Crepes is sure to satisfy, even the savoury cravings too. Just make sure you are hungry enough to devour a Nutella-filled crepe with all of the toppings. Our favourite choice on the menu is the Banoffee crepe (banana, toffee and lotus biscoff – delish!). If sweet isn’t your thing, don’t worry as they have a good offering of savoury crepes on the menu from the staples of cheese and ham to pesto, tomato, spinach and cheese. I mean do we really need to sell you on sugar-filled pancakes? They sell themselves.
Sweet crepes from: £3 – £5.50
Savoury crepes: £5 – £6.50

Last but definitely not least on our list is Woolf & Social. If you haven’t tried out this neighbourhood dining spot, where have you been? It delivers on so many levels – foodie’s dream, artisan vibe, friendly staff, innovative dishes and more! It has a street food meets fine dining style of cooking that is unique and will make you think about the dishes weeks after tasting them. This is the perfect dining spot for a laidback family dinner, a romantic date or even just a bite to eat before visiting the Fat Cat pub across the road – it is a really versatile place and they change the menu often to keep things interesting. On weeknights, they often have 3 plates for £20 if you book in advance.
